Alova was recommended to us by Darian Culbert and it did not disappoint. I don’t have any negative comments about this ship, the staff were very friendly, the food was very good and we enjoyed all the activities through out our trip. The best thing was that everyone on the ship had to sit on the same table for meals, which I think was great because it gave us a chance to mingle and chat with everyone on board. I should also mention that our guide Thung (I hope I wrote it correctly) was excellent, his English was very comprehensible unlike the English of many other guides in Vietnam and he always made sure that we enjoyed every moment of our trip. If you’re looking to book this cruise (Alova gold cruises), I would recommend booking through Darian Culbert as their prices were much cheaper than other agencies.
Fint sammansatt program. Transfer även hem till hotellet
Were picked up at our hotel for the trip to Halong. Small boat for transport out to Alova, a small family crouser with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Welcome, good lunch and canoeing out amongst the beautiful limestone islands. Looked beautiful caves and walked stairs up a mountain for a great view. Happy hour in the evening after the nice dinner. Saw floating villages. Nicely composed programs. Transfers also home to the hotel
We made the best choice with Alova! We are happy to have had such good service! Mike, the guide seemed very experienced, very good humor, always with a smile and dealing well and we are all happy. The food is amazing! We tried all the traditional dishes of Vietnam with a spectacular chef! The rooms and bathrooms very clean! Really worth 10 points!! Be careful to CHOOSE a cruise on Halong Bay because there are many poor services, Alova is one of the best and a good price.
We took the three day + two night cruise and quite enjoyed it. The food was very well prepared and we also loved the cooking classes. While the boat is less than a year old, there are still some minor problems like the bathroom door wouldn’t close as it was warped and need the attention of a carpenter. The staff members were very friendly and always keen to help out with any concerns or questions that we had. This is one of the budget cruises and we have also been on one to Halong Bay that was double the price. While the other boat was more luxurious and we had a bigger room, if you want to save your dollars for other adventures, then I highly recommend the Alova Gold cruise on Halong Bay. If your itinerary allows it, stay two nights instead of one night. If you only do the one night trip, you have very little time to see Halong Bay. You only arrive around 1.30 pm in the afternoon and then by 9.30 am the following morning, you are already motoring back to the Port.
We had a great tour guide called Man. He had only been doing this trip for a few months but what he lacked in knowledge he made up for with enthusiasm and nothing was too much for him to make our trip enjoyable. We did worry about the boat before we arrived in Halong, but we didn’t need to. The boat was probably one of the best there (and there was a few). The crew of Alova Gold Cruises were so friendly and very welcoming and the food was fantastic. We may have been lucky with the other guests as we all got on great which made the trip even better, especially when we all tried the captains cocktails during happy hour. All in all value for money and some great scenery. My only suggestion would be don’t do the 2 nights-3 days trip, just do the 1 night-2 days which we, and most others did (comments from other people that did the 2 nights-3 days that joined our boat for their 2nd night said that it was not really any thing extra involved and saw the same things on the second day)
We did the 2D1N junk cruise with Alova Gold from 11th to 12th April 2012 recently. Overall, we were rather satisfied with the cruise, guide, meals, activities… The minibus transfer from Hanoi (and bk) was included free (which is nice)… no problem with the bus at all… Our guide, Nghe (aka Peter) followed us right from hotel picked up, ship boarding and during the cruise. So overall, they provided us wth great personalize service. He even remembered that we requested a quiet room and arranged it for us a room away from ship motor room. Food-wise, not bad at all, all have more than enough to go around… (but some of the caucasion tour-mates should hv requested western meals as they seems didn’t like the vietnamese crusine so much)… However, only tea/coffee at breakfast meal is free… the cruise charges almost US$2 for a hot Vietnamese green-tea (from tea bag) during lunch/dinner (which is very steep)… It would be really nice if they could provide us plain water during meal… which they didn’t… only a small bottle (really small) bottle was provided in the room… Day one – TiTop Island/ Kayaking Day two – Surprise cave Both days activities was nice… Some of the people whom we met on the cruise were doing 3D2N (their 3rd is our 2rd)… on our second day, they basically stay on the ship doing nothing (Free and easy)…
It’s a middle size boat with 3 decks. The room is a bit small and the a/c does not work 24 hours. There is no TV in the room but it’s better to stay on the deck to enjoy the view. Food is good, 1 Vietnamese food for lunch, 1 seafood for dinner, 1 american breakfast and 1 lunch on-shore. We had a great time kayaking in the bay, as well as a wonderful relaxation on the deck during the night where you can see lots of stars. Our tour guide is cool (Sunny), and took good care of all us. Considering the price for the cruise and i think it’s good value.
